Community peer

Community peer

A low-barrier bridge to connect vulnerable people with services, while empowering others to assist their community and gain confidence and skills.

Peers are DEWC members with lived or living experience. They work alongside DEWC staff to help people accessing our services.

The program offers takes their multiple barriers to employment into account and offers flexibility, training, and pays a stipend of $20 per hour.

“I like helping and relating to people. Being a part of the peer program at the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre gives me this opportunity. People are friendly, welcoming, and humble at DEWC. So, it is easy to make friends.”
