Volunteer with the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre & Emergency Night Shelter
Volunteer opportunities are for women and self-identified women over the age of eighteen (18).
Volunteer roles at the Drop-In Centre include, but are not limited to: management of the DEWC Clothing Room, mail-outs, food preparation, organizing donations, and helping with special events (ex. Christmas, New Year’s Brunch, Fall Dinner, Summer BBQ).

Volunteers contribute over 60,000 hours each year in a variety of capacities in a variety of roles:
- Clothing Room Attendant
- Board Member
- Food Preparation
- Food Service
- Clerical duties
- Hospital Visits
- Computer Network Support
- Program Delivery
- Special Events
- … and much more
At the Centre we are focused on providing for the basics, food, shelter, clothing and refuge. Volunteers provide much needed quality of life activities such as outings, special events and program delivery, inspiration, intellectual challenge, creativity, fresh air and recognition are things that lead to a life with beauty.
The volunteer program supports women living in the community through the Skills & Development Program. The volunteer program works with women from outside the community to create change.
