Earlier this month, 18 Elders of the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre attended the 48th annual Elders Gathering at the Vancouver Convention Centre. It was very heartwarming to see them reunited with family members they had not seen in years as well as meet new people from other Nations 🖤🤍💛❤️
🥁These 2 days were about making personal connections, as well as sharing values and celebrating Indigenous cultures.
They participated in different workshops such as Preparing for the Sacred Journey and Diabetes Awareness, and fun self-care like tarot readings, hairdressing and manicures, as well as delicious meals!
Through our Indigenous Women’s Project, women get the opportunity to deepen relationships and cultural bond through celebrations, language courses, art workshops and culturally appropriate trauma-informed emotional support.
