Mid-Autumn Festival

Sep 29, 2023

At our drop-in centre, we celebrated the gift of the harvest with ceremonies to encourage the harvest’s return next year. The day was filled with beautiful dancing from our Chinese Seniors and our kitchen served mooncakes after the lunch service.

This year, Friday September 29th marked the date of the famous Chinese Mid Autumn Festival otherwise known as the Mooncake Festival.

It falls mid-autumn on August 15th of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. In China, it celebrates the gift of the harvest with ceremonies to encourage the harvest’s return the next year. During this celebration, families usually come together to have a feast, worship and appreciate the moon, and light paper lanterns. It is also important to underline that mooncakes are the most representative food during this festival. Mooncakes are eaten when the moon is supposedly at its brightest and fullest, and gifted to friends and family members to symbolize the expression of best wishes.
